Updates Brief Fees

Returns processing fee: the line that quietly raises break-even ACOS

Who it hits

Apparel, shoes, and any ASIN whose return rate sits above the category threshold. Also anyone whose Fee Preview looks fine and whose settlement does not.

What to do this week

Pull return rate by ASIN. Add the processing fee to contribution before you set a Q4 bid. Fix the listing reason for the returns or stop buying rank.

How it breaks a pretty ACOS

ACOS is ad spend over ad sales. It does not subtract the refund, the return freight, or the processing fee. A clothing ASIN at 18% ACOS can be a loss once one in four units comes back. Rebuild break-even with the break-even SOP and a returns assumption from the last 90 days, not from the launch month.

  1. Voice of the Customer / returns report: top reason codes.
  2. If the reason is sizing or “not as described,” fix the listing before you raise the bid. Ads scale the returns.
  3. If the rate is structural for the category, the bid ceiling drops. Exact on converters only.

Thresholds and rates live in Seller Central. Do not paste a 2024 percentage table into a bid.

FAQ

Does a low return rate mean the fee is zero?

For categories charged only above a threshold, yes — until the rate crosses it. Apparel and shoes need a separate read. Check the help page for your category this month.
