Client issue: advertising the parent — or the wrong child — in a variation family
Amazon pubblica gli avvisi Seller Central e Ads in inglese. Il brief sotto resta in inglese per non perdere il testo fonte. Review, moduli e policy sono nella tua lingua. Conferma i numeri in Seller Central.
Who it hits
Catalogs with size/color parents, recent variation fixes, or review-sharing changes. Anyone whose search-term report shows orders on a different ASIN than the ad group targets.
What to do this week
Audit each variation family: which children are buyable, which hold reviews, which you actually advertise. Fix parentage bugs before you scale. One buyable child per ad group when mapping is messy.
What goes wrong
- Campaign targets the parent ASIN that is not the buyable offer.
- Spend hits a low-convert color while the hero child sits undefended.
- Review-sharing / theme changes moved social proof; ads still push the weak child.
- One child is suppressed; discovery keeps buying traffic into the family.
This week
- List every advertised ASIN in a family. Mark buyable vs suppressed. Open the public page shoppers see.
- Align ad groups to the child you want to rank — usually the buyable hero with the conversion you can defend.
- Negate or pause siblings that only steal budget. Do not “let Amazon figure it out” on blended auto.
- If parentage itself is wrong, fix catalog first: review-sharing / variations and the variation package / listing workstreams.
- Playbook: advertise the child, not the parent.
Operator method. Amazon decides variation themes and review sharing. Confirm live. No ACOS guarantee after a remap.
FAQ
Should every child have its own campaign?
When volume and margins differ, yes. When two children share demand and both convert, shared structure can work — only after both are buyable and the search-term report is clean.
Do theme edits restore stars overnight?
No. Confirm live review display after a theme change. Do not promise a star count in a bid plan.
Operator SOP / guide. Confirm live policy in Seller Central before you file or bid.
Stuck on this change?
I will walk the public listing, say whether this change is leaking spend, and what week one would be.
